BUDDIES CAN WIN FAN-TASTIC AWARD FOR DOCTOR WHO

DOCTOR Who star David Tennant is set to land his most prestigious acting honour yet – with a little help from thousands of his Paisley fans.

David has been nominated in the Best Actor category of the National Television Awards, in which members of the public decide the winners through a telephone vote.

The Paisley-born star is up against other famous names, including Coronation Street favourite Bradley Walsh and EastEnders hard man Ross Kemp, with the winner to be announced when the awards ceremony is broadcast on television next week.

Last night, David’s proud parents said they will be voting for the talented Buddie and they hope Paisley Daily Express readers will also lend their support.

The Very Rev Dr Sandy MacDonald, who is David’s dad, reckons it will be out of this world if his boy wins the much-coveted gong.

“Just to be nominated for this award is an achievement,” he said. “If David wins, he will probably be on stage thanking his granny, grandpa and auntie, like people do at these events.

“I was speaking to David and he’s been working night and day on filming for Doctor Who recently.

“He is just so busy all the time.”

Sandy and his wife Helen will both be glued to the television set at their Dykebar home on November 1 when the awards ceremony, to be hosted by veteran newsman Sir Trevor McDonald, is broadcast on ITV.

Son-of-the-manse David has come a long way since his time as a pupil at Paisley Grammar School.

The 35-year-old has enjoyed a number of successful acting roles but has really hit the big time since taking over the lead part in Doctor Who.

Now his performances as the famous time lord in the cult BBC sci-fi series have put him in line for success at the National Television Awards.

Also nominated in the Best Actor category are Corrie’s Walsh, EastEnders’ Kemp, Hollyoaks star Chris Fountain and Matthew Fox, of US-based hit show Lost.

Meanwhile, Doctor Who has been nominated in the Most Popular Drama category, having picked up the award last year.
