60p a unit to be 'considerable'

A minimum price for alcohol would have a "considerable" impact if it was set at 60 pence a unit, a public health expert said.

Dr Emilia Crighton, the convener of the Faculty of Public Health in Scotland, said research showed almost 900 lives a year could be saved if a minimum price was set at this level.

She spoke out after delegates at the faculty's Scottish conference in Peebles unanimously voted in favour of minimum pricing for alcohol.
