CHILDREN in Renfrewshire are continuing to achieve the national average in exam results.
Statistics revealed by the Scottish Government show 30 per cent are leaving sixth year with three or more Highers, the same as the Scottish average.
And when it comes to five or more Highers, 19 per cent of senior pupils are hitting the mark, again the same as the average for across Scotland.
More pupils, 13 per cent, achieved one or more Advanced Highers in Renfrewshire, than the 12 per cent Scottish average. This was a one per cent increase on last year’s results.
Pupils in East Renfrewshire were again the highest achieving across Scotland with 51 per cent passing three or more Highers, 38 per cent passing five or more and almost a quarter, 24 per cent, coming away with one or more Advanced Higher.
Meanwhile, research by the Bank of Scotland shows Renfrewshire’s population has dropped by four per cent between 1997 and 2007.
That works out as 6,200 less people living in the area, one of the highest drops of any local authority in Scotland.
