Tears as deer is killed in road accident

SCHOOLCHILDREN were in tears when a roe deer – which had caused great excitement since it wandered on to Barshaw Park – was knocked down and killed on busy Glasgow Road.

The deer, which had been spotted close to the golf course at Barshaw in Paisley, over a number of days had become a star attraction.

But, sadly it died after running out in front of a car which couldn’t stop in time.

The accident happened at 8.30am on Friday morning just outside the park when children were heading to school.

An eyewitness said: “Some of the schoolchildren were in tears. It was really sad.

“We had spotted the deer in Barshaw Park earlier on in the week, so to see it has died is just a shame.

“The driver wasn’t able to stop, it just ran out without warning.

Roe deer have become more common in Scotland’s towns and cities over the last few years.

Last September, a baby deer was found slaughtered on Elderslie Golf Course causing outrage amongst locals.
