A YOUNG man who was brutally stabbed during a late-night party was recovering yesterday after undergoing lifesaving surgery.
A team of medics spent hours operating on 23-year-old Anthony Docherty, who had been knifed in the stomach and collapsed in a pool of blood in the street.
Last night, the victim was still receiving intensive care in Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital, where his condition was described as serious but stable.
One source said: “At one stage, he was in a critical condition and the surgeons had to save his life. He was on the operating table for several hours.
“Anthony had been brutally attacked after a party in a flat got out of hand.”
Detectives have been talking to Mr Docherty in hospital in an attempt to piece together exactly what happened.
It was around 1am on Saturday when a fight involving a number of men erupted in Mitchell Avenue, Moorpark, Renfrew.
The victim was threatened and chased out of a flat where a party was being held.
The incident spilled out to the tenement close and then into the street, where Mr Docherty collapsed in a pool of blood and lay semi-conscious.
He was rushed to hospital in a taxi by a man and a woman.
And a squad of officers arrived at the scene to search for the weapon used in the attack.
Yesterday, police were continuing to carry out door-to-door inquiries and were following up a number of leads.
Detective Inspector John Dearie said: “We are treating this incident as attempted murder.
“It’s important that we speak to the man and woman who took the victim to hospital in a taxi. They may have some valuable information.”
Anyone who can help the inquiry is asked to call Johnstone Police Office on 01505 404000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where you can give information anonymously.
