Super slimmer Ellen Davis was in a spin when she was congratulated on her inspirational weight loss by Dancing On Ice winner Matthew Wolfenden.
Ellen, from Barrhead, got to meet the hunky Emmerdale actor after impressing judges in the Slimming World’s Woman of the Year 2012 competition.
Since joining the Paisley Slimming World group in January, Ellen has shed a whopping 5st 5½lbs.
That led to her being chosen as one of just 47 women from across the UK and Ireland to reach the finals of the Woman of the Year contest.
Matthew, who plays David Metcalfe in the Yorkshire soap and was nominated for the Sexiest Male title at the British Soap Awards earlier this year, knows only too well the thrill of a good competition, since he skated his way to victory on ITV1’s Dancing On Ice.
He was on hand at Slimming World’s head office in Derbyshire to congratulate Ellen and the other finalists on their amazing achievements.
Ellen, 55, used to tip the scales at a hefty 15st 7lbs but has now slimmed down to 10st 1½lbs.
Her weight loss and new-found confidence inspired her fellow members to vote for her as their representative in the annual Woman of the Year competition.
Ellen said: “I’d tried so many times and so many ways to lose weight before – usually depriving myself of the foods I enjoy, counting calories and going hungry – so, unsurprisingly, my attempts usually failed miserably.
“Slimming World was completely different to anything I’d known before. I did have to make changes to the way that I cooked and ate, of course, but they were small changes, made easy at Slimming World.
“I loved tucking into delicious, healthy meals and watching the pounds fall off.
“It was great to prepare meals that suited my family and friends too, so we’ve all benefited from eating more healthily – and, often, they couldn’t believe they were eating ‘healthy’ food.
“If ever my motivation did start to fade, my consultant and the rest of the group were there to remind me how far I’d come.
“Each week, we talk about coping with different challenges and share recipes, practical advice and handy tips, such as offers we’ve seen in local supermarkets.
“We laugh a lot too and I love going to the group every week.
“I’ve made so many friends and thanks to them – and my weight loss – I’m a more confident person, as well as a slimmer one.”
Amanda Thomson, who runs the Paisley Slimming World group, is full of praise for Ellen.
“She is not only looking fab, she’s a brilliant example of the difference making changes to your eating habits and getting more active can make,” said Amanda.
“Ellen has added years to her life and her success is inspiring other people in the group and in Barrhead to turn their health around and help us beat obesity in the area.”
Matthew, who has been busy celebrating Emmerdale’s 40th anniversary this month, added: “Obesity is never out of the news, so for Ellen to be making the headlines for all the right reasons is brilliant.
“Taking up skating for Dancing On Ice proved to me that it’s never too late to try something new and Ellen is proof of that too. Since joining Slimming World, she has completely changed her life – and she looks great.”
Slimming World’s Paisley group meets at the Watermill Hotel every Thursday, at 5.30pm and 7.30pm. For more details, call Amanda on 0798 912 5788 or visit the website at www.slimmingworld.com
