THE mother of REN 96 starlet James Murphy might be a swim meet judge but it was the teenager who laid down the law at his latest contest.
The 14-year-old raced away from the opposition at the Cumbernauld Open Swim Meet at the Tryst Swimming Pool.
James was on top of the prizewinner’s podium on a fantastic four occasions, taking gold medals in the 50m breaststroke, 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly.
His epic endeavours were emulated by his team-mates in an epidemic of excellent swimming as the Ren 96 team won 21 medals and achieved 58 personal best times.
A triumphant trio of talented 12-year-olds were at the front of the medal rush.

And Caitlin Duffy won bronze in the 50m backstroke too.
Meanwhile, the dynamic duo of David Muir and Matthew Boyle, both 13, also stood proudly on the podium.
David won gold in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke along with bronze in the 50m butterfly.

Connie Mackay, 17, won silver in the 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 100m breaststroke events.
An example of one of the many exceptional personal best times was the outstanding effort from Blair McHarg, who reduced his 50m breaststroke time by a incredible 15 seconds.
When the news of Ren 96 success reached head coach Sandy Blackwood, he could not contain his delight.
He said: “I’m delighted that Ren 96 swimmers are competing so strongly at major events.
“Next on the calendar our trip to the North East of England for the National Age Group Championships on March 31 and the way things are going, we’ll turn Sunderland into a Ren 96 wonderland.”
