Festive crime crackdown

A CRIME crackdown has been launched by police in the run-up to the festive season.

More officers are on the beat to catch thieves and pickpockets, as well as reassuring shoppers about their safety.

The move comes from police in the Barrhead and Neilston areas and is part of a blitz by police throughout East Renfrewshire.

Squads of officers are on foot and vehicle patrols, concentrating on busy shopping areas, including Main Street, Barrhead.

Chief Inspector Alan Murray said: “It is important that the police and our partners do all we can to protect residents of East Renfrewshire over the festive period.

“It is also important for criminals to be aware that the police do not relax at this time of the year.”
