A DOZY drug dealer called in the cops after he was the victim of an assault on his own doorstep ... only for the officers to uncover his secret cannabis stash.
The 20-year-old man had dialled 999 after a group of thugs turned up at his home and tried to force their way inside.
During the melee, he was assaulted but managed to escape a more severe beating when he slammed the door shut on the gang.
However, he was the one who ended up being led away in handcuffs when police officers arrived to speak to him about the alleged attack.
When the cops walked into his home in Russell Street, Paisley, on Friday, they were met with the strong and distinctive whiff of cannabis plants.
A quick check of the flat uncovered around 20 of the illegal plants and the man, along with a 19-year-old woman, was arrested.
One source told the Paisley Daily Express: “It’s fair to say that this guy isn’t the smartest cookie in the jar.
“He must have been pretty scared after being attacked on his own doorstep by an angry gang but to leave the cannabis plants out for the police to find after calling them out himself is just asking to be arrested.
“When the officers turned up, they immediately detected a strong smell of cannabis and it didn’t take them long to find where the guy’s stash of 20 plants was hidden.
“He must have felt a bit silly when the police slapped the handcuffs on him and led him away.”
Detectives are now hunting for the gang who tried to attack the man.
A police spokesman said: “We can confirm that a 20-year-old male and 19-year-old female have been arrested in connection with the discovery of a small cannabis cultivation at a property in Russell Street, Paisley.
“A report on this matter has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
