A TERRIFIED businessman suffered a nightmare ordeal after being abducted and robbed of thousands of pounds, it emerged yesterday.
The 27-year-old Asian victim was bundled into the back of a van and beaten and threatened while being driven along streets in the outskirts of Paisley.
Last night it was unclear how long the man’s ordeal lasted before he was dumped, frightened and dazed, on a busy street.
It is understood that he had minor injuries including bruising to his face.
Paisley detectives have interviewed the businessman as they try and piece together exactly what happened.
Sources have told the Paisley Daily Express that the businessman had driven to meet someone at a pre-arranged meeting place in Hillington, Renfrewshire.
But his terror ordeal began as soon as he got there on Wednesday night.
One reliable source said: “I’ve heard he was lured to this meeting place in the heart of Hillington Industrial Estate to discuss a financial deal.
“It was somewhwere in the Lister Road area. But I don’t know what was being discussed or how much money was involved.
He went on: “At some point the victim was pushed into a van, threatened and punched on the face.
“He was driven for some time around the Hillington, Glasgow and Paisley area before being dumped in Paisley Road West, Glasgow. Later he alerted the cops and they launched an inquiry.”
The source said he later heard that a few thousand pounds was taken from the victim.
The businessman, who lives in Glasgow, managed to contact a member of his family who alerted the police.
Last night police remained tight-lipped about the incident but admitted they were looking into a report about an alleged abduction and robbery.
Their inquiries are continuing.
Officers want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in Hillington Industrial Estate on Wednesday night. Witnesses are asked to ring Paisley police office on 0141 532 5900 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
One officer said: “No matter how trivial you think your information is let us know.”
