Cabbie attacked and robbed

A MASKED thug robbed a terrified taxi driver of a bag of money during a nasty attack early yesterday morning.

The yob, who was with another man at the time, targeted the cabbie as he drove them to the Foxbar area of Paisley.

The driver was punched and had his neck grabbed from behind while being threatened.

Both yobs then robbed him of a bag with more than £10 inside before getting out of the car, running off and disappearing in the darkness.

Last night, as police stepped up the search for the desperate duo, they launched an appeal for witnesses.

The frightening robbery happened after the taxi driver was told by his call centre to collect two men at a Paisley garage.

He picked up his fare and headed for Foxbar but, when he reached Brediland Road, he was attacked.

One source said: “I heard that one of the thugs was was wearing a Halloween-style mask of an old man’s face.

“After threatening the cabbie and claiming they had a blade, they grabbed a bag with a small amount of money inside.”

Both neds are aged in their early 20s.

A police spokesman said: “If anyone saw two young men running from a stationary taxi in Brediland Road in the early hours of Friday morning, ring Paisley Police Office on 0141 532 5900.”
