BB hope town centre display will boost membership

LEADERS of the Boys’ Brigade are hoping to rope in some new recruits after setting up a special display in Paisley town centre.

The Paisley & District Battalion has joined forces with management at The Paisley Centre to come up with the shop front exhibition.

And John Stewart, spokesman for the P&D Battallion, is hoping that many youngsters will be inspired to ‘join up’ after seeing what’s on offer at the 125-year-old organisation.

He said: “The display provides information on individual companies, days when they meet and contact numbers.

“There are also a number of photographs which give an indication of how the new-look Boys’ Brigade operates and many of the activities we partake in.

“We are hoping to show that the BB is very much alive today. This is not intended as a history of the organisation.”

The display, which is based at the old Barratts shoe store in the busy shopping mall, will run until Wednesday, September 15, and Buddies are free to drop in and have a look at any time.

Boys from the 15th Paisley Company (Laigh Kirk), the 8th Paisley Company (Martys/Sandyford Church) and the 16th Paisley Company (St Columba’s Church, Foxbar) were on hand to help launch the display.

Mr Stewart said: “We would like to thank the centre management for making available the space for our display and to the Co-operative and Baru for providing items for the display.

“We’re extremely pleased with the way it has turned out. It is pretty eye-catching.”

Michelle McCabe, manager at The Paisley Centre, added: “We are always pleased to have the opportunity to encourage community activities. In this instance, it is the Boys’ Brigade and we wish them every success with their recruitment campaign.”

Staff can deal with enquiries between 10am and 2pm on Mondays to Fridays and from 10am until noon on Saturdays.
