Now’s the time to buy a new car, insists industry expert

THIS is the right time to buy a new car, according to an industry expert.

The new 60-registration plate is hitting forecourts all over Renfrewshire and great deals are just round the corner.

That’s the view of the Retail Motor Industry (RMI), a trade body representing new and used car dealers across the UK.

Sue Robinson, director of the RMI’s franchised dealers, said: “With the 60 plates just released, showrooms are currently playing host to some great deals, so now is the time to visit your local car dealer.”

She added: “The 2.5 per cent in VAT due in January equates to £300 on a £12,500 car and £500 on a £20,000 car.

“This is a significant amount of money, which could be spent on optional extras for the new vehicle, so buy now to get the best value.”

In addition to beating the VAT rise, consumers can take advantage of post-scrappage discounts, and extended warranties of up to seven years.

“In fact, one UK manufacturer is offering a lifetime warranty up to 100,000 miles, so now is a great time to buy a 60-plate car,” said Ms Robinson.
