Beat nuisance phone calls

POLICE yesterday reminded pensioners that phone security is just as important as home security.

Accepting cold calls via the telephone is potentially as risky as allowing pushy door-to-door sales people inside your home.

The British Crime Survey reveals that, each year, 1.5 million people receive repeated malicious or nuisance calls.

That’s where the Call Prevention Registry comes in as they eliminate overseas companies from phoning households.

Anyone wanting help to stop nuisance or scam calls is asked to find out more about the Call Prevention Registry by visiting www.callpreventionregistry.com or dialling the freephone hotline on 0800 652 7780.

You can also find out more by sending an e-mail to info@callpreventionregistry.com.

A police spokesman said: “Anything that helps people feel safer in their homes is good news as far as we’re concerned.”
