Mum with baby is mugged

A YOUNG mum was in shock yesterday after being robbed at knifepoint while pushing her baby son in his pram.

The panic-stricken 20-year-old victim took all the cash from her purse – more than £25 – and handed it to the mugger.

As the desperate thief ran off, the mum rushed into a nearby supermarket with her 13-month-old son and raised the alarm.

Both the woman and her son were unhurt but she was left badly shaken by her ordeal.

One shopper said: “Thankfully, they were okay but the mum was, understandably, in some state. She was trembling.”

The sickening attack happened on a cycle path near the Morrisons store in Johnstone at around 12.30pm on Thursday, July 8.

The victim saw a woman walking towards her on the cycle path and, as they were passing each other, the mum was threatened.

A blade was held at the victim’s side and she was ordered to hand over money.

One source said: “The young mum was stunned and frightened, especially as she had her baby with her at the time.

“She didn’t want to risk anything, so she just took out all the money she had in her purse and handed it over.

“Imagine putting a woman with a baby through that sort of ordeal. It’s disgusting.”

Police were quickly on the scene and toured the area but no-one was found.

However, after officers checked CCTV footage, a woman was arrested.

A police spokesman said: “I can confirm that a 33-year-old woman from Linwood was arrested in connection with a robbery in Johnstone on Thursday afternoon.

“A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.”
