Give curling a try

COMPANIES who want to brush up on their teamwork are being urged to take to the ice and get their staff to try out curling.

Braehead Curling Rink – which is part of the giant Braehead Shopping Centre – has put together a series of corporate curling packages as a great team-building exercise and a fun night out into the bargain.

All packages include ice fees, hire of equipment, 30 minutes of coaching and 90 minutes of game time.

Everyone will be placed in teams of four and be given tuition on the basics of the game, including delivering a stone, sweeping and game tactics.

After each session there will be a prizegiving ceremony in the adjacent bar where refreshments can be served.

Up to eight people, plus a coach can play on each sheet of ice at any one time and a maximum of 64 people can play on the curling rink at any one time.

Braehead leisure manager, Bruce Harley said: “Curling is a fantastic game for team-building, but it’s also great fun.

“It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played curling before because it won’t take long after a short period of coaching for everyone to be able to take part in a game and get enjoyment from their new-found skills.

“All the necessary equipment is provided, so all you need to do is bring yourself and your staff along to the curling rink.

“It’s best if those taking part wear loose, comfortable clothing, although jeans aren’t suitable as they restrict movement. Clean, flat-soled shoes like trainers are ideal as heels and boots are inappropriate.”

Bruce added: “We’re looking forward to local companies bringing their staff along for an evening’s curling as everyone will have a great time and learn to build on their teamwork qualities.”

The Bronze Package costs £20 per person and includes a complimentary drink from the bar.

The Silver Package at £25 per person includes a complimentary drink and a buffet of sandwiches, sausage rolls, chicken drumsticks, tea and coffee.

And the Gold Package costing £30 person includes a complimentary drink along with a buffet of assorted cold cuts, baked potatoes, coleslaw, potato salad, mixed salad, crusty bread, tea and coffee.

Food can be served either before or after curling.
