A TALENTED artist has scooped a top award with her ‘fruity’ idea.
Hazel Nagl, who lives in Bridge of Weir, won the £1,000 Alexander Graham Munro Award at the 130th Annual Exhibition of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, in Edinburgh.
Her painting, ‘Fruit Shop, The Veneto’ impressed judges with it’s vivid colours and warmth.
Hazel, who trained at Glasgow School of Art, was delighted when she found out her painting had been picked as a winner.
She said: “I’m thrilled and delighted to win the award.
“My reason for choosing the subject was a response to the Italian sense of drama, colour, sheer joy in ordinary every day things.
“This particular fruit shop owner really did most of the work for me!”
The success is the latest in an eventful career for Hazel who has won many awards from the Royal Glasgow Institute and Paisley Art Institute, and exhibits regularly in group exhibitions and at Glasgow Art Club. Her work is also held in several private collections.
The exhibition, at the Royal Scottish Academy Building in Edinburgh, is open until Sunday, March 18.
It features over 120 new paintings by both established and emerging artists from across Scotland including Helga Chart, Douglas Davies, Jim Dunbar, and Philip Reeves.
