Pram Shop break-in

POLICE were last night investigating a break-in at a pram store which closed down in mysterious circumstances.

The Paisley Daily Express yesterday told how angry mums had laid seige to the Paisley Pram Shop on Wednesday amid fears they will be left out of pocket after the shutters came down.

Now the tale has taken a new twist after cops were called to the scene yesterday morning.

Officers found that a side door at the shop, in Causeyside Street, had been forced open and some of the stock had been stolen.

The Express understands that expensive prams worth hundreds of pounds have disappeared.

Kerrie Donaldson was among customers who gathered outside the store yesterday morning.

And she told how she spotted one woman making off with a pram.

The 18-year-old Elderslie mum who ordered a cot from the Paisley Pram Shop in July last year and is still waiting for it to arrive, even though her baby boy Leon has now been born said: I came down here in the hope that I would catch the shop owner or some of his staff so that I could get answers from them about what has happened to the cot I ordered.

A woman who was waiting outside the store noticed that the side door was open. The next minute, she ran inside and grabbed a pink Silver Cross pram, which was sitting in the window.

Then she ran off up the road.

Another customer, who asked not to be named, added: It seems that some people were able to get inside the shop without too much trouble.

The police turned up to have a look around and theyve been here for quite a while.

A number of Paisley Pram Shop customers have told the Express they are still waiting to collect goods that were ordered months ago.

Mums claim they have been repeatedly fobbed off with excuses by staff and telephone calls to the store have gone unanswered.

Yesterday, a police spokesman confirmed they are investigating the break-in at the pram store and are monitoring the situation to ensure that public order is maintained.

Anyone who has information is asked to call Paisley Police Office on 0141 532 5900 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

No-one was available at the store yesterday when the Express paid a visit and phone calls also went unanswered.
