SSP call on UK government forces to bring back the troops

l ANTI-WAR protesters took to Paisley High Street to call on the UK Government to bring our troops home.

Scottish Socialist Party election hopeful Jimmy Kerr and Dougie Channing were out urging shoppers to sign petitions calling for an end to the British forces fighting in Afghanistan.

More than 9,000 soldiers are currently battling the Taliban and foreign militants for control of the lawless Helmand Province.

The Renfrewshire SSP is calling on the UK Government to end the fighting in Afghanistan and bring troops home immediately.

And well-known activist Jimmy, who has been nominated by his party to fight Labour MP and International Development Secretary Douglas Alexander next year for his Paisley and Renfrewshire South seat at Westminster in next year’s general election, has also called on the UK to pull out of NATO – dubbing it a relic of the Cold War.

SSP Renfrewshire Campaigns Co-ordinator Jimmy Kerr said: “The response we had was amazing, it showed that public sympathy for the war is deteriorating and that people are seeing through the web of lies that justified this war.”

The 34-year-old added: “There is no reason why we should be in NATO. This cold war relic was set up to fight the perceived threat from the Soviet Union. Renfrewshire SSP is calling for a complete withdrawal from Afghanistan and a complete withdrawal from NATO.”
