A YOUNG man was found dead yesterday in a top floor flat near a busy town centre.
The 21-year-old was discovered lying in a bedroom by a shocked member of his family.
Last night, police revealed they are not treating the death as suspicious.
It is understood that one line of inquiry being pursued by officers is that the death may be drug related.
The man’s lifeless body was discovered in a flat in Paisley Road, Renfrew.
When police arrived at the scene, they cordoned off the tenement block and began an investigation.
Forensic officers were called in to examine the room where the body was found.
One woman who lives near the scene of the tragedy said: “I came home from work around lunchtime and I could see a police car parked outside one of the blocks of flats.
“I then spoke to a neighbour and she told me that a young man had been found dead. I don’t know much about how he died but my heart goes out to his poor family.
“It’s tragic when a life is lost at such a young age and it must be particularly hard on this man’s loved ones when you consider that this is a time of year when families get together to celebrate with each other.”
A police spokesman confirmed that a report is being sent to the procurator fiscal and a postmortem examination is being arranged to establish exactly how the man died.
He added: “The body of a young man was discovered at a family home in Renfrew. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and our inquiries are continuing.”
