Armed cops on alert after gun report

ARMED cops were put on red alert after a report that a gunman was poking a loaded gun through the letterbox of a house in Paisley.

As officers with automatic weapons in their vehicles raced to the town door-to-door inquiries were carried out in the hunt for a mystery man with a shooter.

The drama happened around 12.30pm on Sunday and involved a family home in the Glencoats Drive area of the town’s Ferguslie Park housing scheme.

Following a 999 phone call a man’s voice claimed someone had been sticking a loaded gun through the letterbox of a house.

It’s understood he gave an address and the name of someone in the house before hanging up. Police immediately launched an inquiry.

Armed officers were not called to the Glencoats Drive area but were on standby at a building a few miles away.

One officer said later: “We carried out an investigation after an allegation there was a gunman in part of Ferguslie Park. Following a thorough search and talking to a few people we decided to treat the incident as a hoax.”
