THERE was welcome news for Paisley’s struggling economy yesterday as a major commercial development was officially opened.
Finance and Sustainable Growth Minister John Swinney cut the ribbon at Westpoint Business Park, which is an office development built by global property group Goodman.
Located in Inchinnan Road, close to Glasgow Airport, it is made up of 200,000 square feet of office space across five separate buildings.
And it has come about as part of a public/private regeneration partnership of Renfrewshire Council, Scottish Enterprise and the Royal Bank of Scotland, who make up the Cart Corridor Joint Venture Company.
Part of a “wider mixed-use regeneration scheme”, when completed it will also incorporate modern community facilities and residential developments.
Mr Swinney said: “Westpoint Business Park is the result of a successful collaboration between the private and public sector.
“And it will be of great benefit to the local community.
“In the current economic climate, developments which improve the economic and social well-being of communities are essential and Westpoint Business Park will help to stimulate economic growth, both within its surrounding area and in Scotland as a whole.”
Derek Mackay, Leader of Renfrewshire Council, said the high-quality workforce and excellent transport links available in the Paisley area provide the perfect location for businesses to flourish.
He added: “That is why we are particularly excited by the launch of the Westpoint Business Park.
“Westpoint demonstrates Renfrewshire’s commitment to long-term investment and innovation and highlights the sustainable approach that we promote towards regeneration.
“As such, I welcome the arrival of this new quality business location and look forward to the boost that it will bring to our local economy.”
Niall McGilp, Goodman’s regional development director in Scotland, said the Westpoint Business Park is an important element in the strategically important Cart Corridor regeneration.
“The proximity to an expanding international airport means it is an attractive location for local businesses and those trading internationally,” he added.
“Westpoint offers a flexible office environment in a range of high-quality buildings close to local amenities and is a welcome investment for the local economy.”
