BUSINESS bosses have warned that the ongoing postal strike action is having an impact on firms across Renfrewshire.
The latest three-day national postal strike began at 4am yesterday and workers in different departments are walking out on different days.
Tomorrow will see the biggest impact in Renfrewshire, with around 160 posties and delivery office staff who are members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) downing tools and walking out of the sorting offices in Underwood Road, Paisley, and Walkinshaw Street, Johnstone.
Shift patterns are due to return to normal at 4am on Sunday, when workers will begin to tackle the backlog of mail.
This is the second national mail strike in as many weeks and businesses across Renfrewshire are feeling the impact.
Bob Davidson, chief executive of Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “At a time when businesses are trying to get out of a recession, the strike comes at a bad time. We all want fair pay and conditions but the Chamber would rather see round-the-table talks rather than strikes of the scale seen so far.”
