High school enjoys good report card High school enjoys good report card

TEACHERS and pupils have been praised in a report by education inspectors.

Staff from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education visited St Benedict’s High School, Linwood in March.

And they’ve now published their report into the school which highlighted several key strengths.

These include well-behaved and enthusiastic young people, good quality pastoral care, a positive relationship between staff and young people and a commitment from the headteacher and staff to improving outcomes for young people.

There were also two examples of good practice – an inclusive approach for young people with autistic spectrum disorder and developing leadership and citizenship in senior students.

St Benedict’s opened in August 2006 and has more than 700 pupils. It has a support unit called the Columba Base for 17 young people with autistic spectrum disorders from across Renfrewshire.

Inspectors highlighted some areas for improvement including the personal and social development of young people, approaches to learning, developing self-evaluation and ensuring the curriculum meets the needs of all young people.

As a result of the positive report, inspectors said they don’t plan to make any follow-up visits to the school to check for progress.
