CHILDREN are using their gardening skills and love for wildlife to aim for an environment award hat trick.
Youngsters at St John Bosco Primary, Erskine, held an eco day of action to raise awareness of their immediate environment.
The school already has two Eco-Schools Green Flag awards and is awaiting re-assessment for a third.
A spokeswoman said: “The purpose of this day was to raise awareness and deepen understanding of the eight areas of the Eco-Schools Green Flag award scheme.
“Activities were based on eight areas of the scheme – litter, waste minimisation, school grounds, water, transport, energy, health and wellbeing and biodiversity.
"All pupils participated, working in teams made up of all primary stages.”
The children had a go at nine different activities including making bird feed and planting bulbs; litter picking; pond dipping; doing a tree survey with Starling Learning; walking; pollution/traffic survey; recycling; fruit and vegetable decomposition and an activity based on their wind turbine.
They got their sleeves rolled up and, where possible, wore green clothes to school to show their support for the project.
“Pupils and staff had a fantastic time and the response from pupils was very positive. They enjoyed all of the activities greatly and learned more about Eco work through fun and challenging work,” added the spokeswoman.
