DJ was on fire on the dancefloor!

DANCING DJ Sharon Oakley’s moves were so hot the FIRE ALARM went off as she strutted her stuff during a fundraiser.

Sizzling star Sharon, who is the voice of Smooth Radio’s breakfast show alongside John McCauley, was taking part in a celebrity version of Come Dance With Me when the bell sounded.

She had already twirled her way through a waltz and was half way through the cha-cha-cha when everyone at Glasgow’s Crown Plaza Hotel was evacuated while firefighters carried out a thorough check.

Sharon, 36, was taking part in the event to help raise £16.1 million for Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Big Build Appeal, and Paisley couple Stewart Wilson and Jane McGivern orchestrated the whole competition.

Sharon, who was born in Paisley and came third on the night, told us: “It was brilliant, just a brilliant night.

“We were in mid-flow when the alarm went off, but we couldn’t hear it at first because the music was going full pelt.

“Then all the big, burly firemen came and checked the place out and it was fine.

“We made loads of money, which was great. And I would like to thank the Paisley Daily Express for plugging the event for us.

“I will definitely keep up the dancing because I absolutely love it.”

Paisley’s TV weatherman Sean Batty, 27, was also a contender on the night and came fourth.

Sean, who was coached by Jane, said: “It was a fantastic night.

“After it all I was totally shattered and had to relax my legs!

“It went really, really well and I really enjoyed it – but it was hot work because of the weather.

“When the fire alarm went off it was awful for poor Sharon.

“We were a great support to each other before the big night, and I know she was a bag of nerves.

“I couldn’t believe when the alarm went off during her second dance and she had to start again.”

The other four contestants were comedian and Galaxy FM DJ Des Clarke; businessman and star of Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire Charan Gill, who won on the night; Vicky Lee, presenter of STV’s The Five Thirty Show and BBC weather presenter Judith Ralston.

Professional dancers Stewart and Jane, from Glenburn, run their Ballroom Basics classes at The Wynd Centre and The Lagoon in Paisley.

Stewart, who partnered Sharon, said: “We raised over £7,000 and it was a night to remember.

“Sean and Sharon both did really well. They were brilliant and really enjoyed themselves.

“The fire alarm went off during our second dance, which was the cha-cha-cha.

“We had to go out into the car park – you wouldn’t get that happening during Strictly Come Dancing!

“Sharon had to stand outside in her short dress, so thankfully it was a mild night.”
