Paisley's success critical to Renfrewshire

I CONCUR with what Hugh Henry MSP said in his column that Paisleys success is critical to the well-being of Renfrewshire (PDE, December 21).

Presumably Mr Henry has the foresight, and political experience, to deplore the misguided and misleading allegation by his Westminster Labour colleague, Douglas Alexander, that the SNP-Renfrewshire Council is pursuing an anti-Johnstone agenda (PDE, December 18).

Every penny of the s37 million pounds which the SNP administration is currently spending on Johnstone contradicts the Labour lie that the town is short-changed. The present SNP-led council has done more to improve the fabric and infrastructure of Johnstone in the last two years than Labour did over a decade.

Mr Alexander is apparently furious according to your report. Frankly that makes two of us. Let me give him the opportunity to vent his anger in person and debate with me in public on the theme of Scotlands finances.

The smoking gun shooting holes in the fabric of our public services, to the tune now of some s800 million, is being fired by his close colleague, Jim Murphy MP, the Scotland Secretary.
