Gordon always had smile for you

I WOULD like to use the pages of the Paisley Daily Express to pass on my sincerest condolences to the family of Dumbarton FC footballer Gordon Lennon.

I was fortunate enough to have met Gordon on one occasion and was struck not only by his impeccable manner and kind nature, but also by the huge smile that became his trademark.

In a time when too many high-paid footballers strut around the pitch with a face like thunder, it was refreshing to see a young man playing the game in the lower levels for little financial reward and yet enjoying himself all the while.

When I spoke to Gordon, he was still playing for Albion Rovers and he mentioned his hopes for a future in the game and, having captained the Sons to the Third Division title this season, I’m sure he would have excelled in the second division and, who knows, climbed higher up the football ladder.

I was saddened to hear of his tragic passing and was shocked to learn he had been taken from his loved ones at such a young age.

My thoughts are with Gordon’s partner Kelly and his young child Kai at this time. May he rest in peace.
