Police keep up hunt for knifeman who attacked shopkeeper

COPS hunting a knifeman who stabbed Paisley shopkeeper Javid Ali have widened their search for a weapon.

Mr Ali was left fighting for life after he was knifed during a horrific attack at his Sunshine Grocers store, in Green Road, at around 5pm on Friday.

The dad-of-three remained in a critical condition at Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital yesterday.

Meanwhile, the police investigation has been continuing, with officers seen searching through undergrowth at playing fields and grassy areas near Cardell Road.

That search was carried out after drains and foliage in and around Green Road were checked.

Police have said they are keeping an open mind about a motive for the attempted murder of Mr Ali but one theory being investigated is that the knife attack happened after a botched robbery bid at the store, which had been targeted by armed robbers in the past.

Anyone who can help detectives with their investigation is asked to contact the CID team at Paisley Police Office on 0141 532 5900. Information can also be passed on anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
